Costa del Sol holidays
The Costa del Sol promises a tried-and-tested formula of sun, sea and sangria. Lined with beaches of every variety and blessed with 325 days of sunshine each year, Spain’s most famous coastline continues to be a magnet for sunworshippers. However, part of its appeal is that that your holiday to the Costa del Sol can be whatever you want it to be: chilled-out beach days, up-tempo nightlife, outings to historic sites and attractive whitewashed villages, or fun-packed days with the whole family.
The Sunshine Coast caters well for those seeking a luxury beach holiday. Marbella and the glamourous marina of Puerto Banús are filled with 5-star hotels, chic restaurants, and swanky beach clubs. If the whole family’s on board, head to Benalmádena and neighbouring Torremolinos for tons of attractions and family-friendly entertainment. Regardless of how busy or slow-paced you like your holidays, the beaches of the Costa del Sol are guaranteed to please.
Things to do on the Costa del Sol
As well as its glorious beaches, the Costa del Sol offers a host of attractions to keep the whole family entertained. Benalmádena is home to Tivoli World theme park, with thrilling rides, rollercoasters and non-stop entertainment shows. The kids will also love Sea Life aquarium, with daily feeding demonstrations. While in Benalmádena, take the cable car to the top of Calamorro Mountain for incredible views. Come the evening, Benalmádena’s nightlife comes alive, with a wide range of waterfront bars to choose from.
In Torremolinos, the town’s huge Blue Flag beach is well stocked with beach bars, sun beds and water sports. For some authentic Spanish food, try one of the beachside chiringuitos, usually serving tapas and drinks. Aqualand waterpark will likely be a hit with the parents as well as the kids. For shopping, take a stroll along the pedestrianised Calle San Miguel.
For upscale dining, glitzy beach clubs and some fabulous people watching, head to Marbella. You’ll want to linger in one of the open-air beach clubs, where you can lounge on a comfy mattress, seek shade in a tropical garden, and soak-up the barefoot luxury vibes. The marina of Puerto Banús is known as a playground for the rich and famous. Here you’ll find elegant bars, Michelin-starred restaurants and plenty of designer boutiques.
The Nerja Caves in Málaga are well worth a visit. Stretching over four kilometres, the cave system is lined with ancient cave art and there are some impressive rock formations, including the world largest stalagmite.
The Costa del Sol can also be a gateway for exploring the wider region of Andalucía, renowned for its historic cities, Moorish architecture and attractive Pueblos Blancos, or whitewashed towns and villages.
